| |
Joan Murray lives and works in East Anglia, England, where she has a studio at her home in Lowestoft, the most easterly town in Britain. Joan works in a variety of materials, exploring ideas across a number of disciplines. Along with collaborative projects she has a number of personal themes to which she returns. The linear element of drawing is a central part of her vocabularly - drawing being a major part of her work and teaching.

| |
Joan's work often crosses the boundaries between art and craft.
|
| |
In 1986 Joan introduced clay into her studio and now often combines it with other media. The process of drawing or marking the clay surface has formed a major part of her artistic practice.

Joan's clay stamp can be found illustrated in BRITISH STUDIO POTTERS' MARKS COMPILED BY ERIC YATES-OWEN AND ROBERT FOURNIER, A & C BLACK, 1998. Her ceramic work and working methods are described and illustrated in THE ART OF HAND BUILT CERAMICS BY SUSAN BRUCE, THE CROW PRESS, 2000.
